Commissioners begin new SPLOST process

The Dodge County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to begin the process to have a Special Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) referendum placed on the November 2013 ballot.

Commissioner Karen Cheek explained that she had met with the county attorney and a referendum did need to be placed on the November 2013 ballot. She stated that they (the board of commissioners) wanted to continue the same projects currently specified in the 2008 SPLOST with a different capital improvement plan to be named at a future time. Cheek stated that all the cities involved (Chauncey, Chester, Eastman, Milan and Rhine) had been contacted and a meeting is scheduled for June 13, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at the county annex board room so that all the communities involved can begin to give them their ‘wish list’ for their projects. Once the cities determine their individual projects, another meeting will have to be scheduled to approve the referendum; then it will be sent to Dodge County Superintendent of Elections John Kelly, according to Cheek.
