Current plans are for Dodge County’s building inspector to function as Eastman’s interim building inspector until a more permanent solution may be found. Eastman City Manager Jason Cobb informed the city council that the last update in permit fees for building inspections occurred in 1991.
Given the city’s agreement with the county to let the county’s building inspector perform related duties for the city, Cobb expressed the desire to make sure that associated fees are currently enough to cover the labor of the inspector. He stated that he pulled research from surrounding counties and cities to determine a more appropriate price range.
In response, city council member Milton Johnson expressed thanks to Cobb for his efforts in adopting this project as his own. The county has been very receptive to the idea of its building inspector working for the city as well, according to Johnson, and he feels that it is good to have the process documented along the way.
